We made the paper!

I had to laugh at the phone calls I got yesterday as the Gonzales Inquirer published this editorial cartoon.  "Fence row politics - Gonzales Style!"

See my chalkboard IS working.  Not only are people making special trips around the block to see what I've written, not only is the talk around the water cooler throughout the town about what is up on the chalk board, but now even the newspaper had to make note of it.

Remember, my stated goal from the get go was to get people of Gonzales talking about what is really happening in this town. For to long we've buried our head in the sand and listened to one side of the story.  I've always been told there are 3 sides to every story, his side, her side and the truth.  This plays in politics as well.

Yes, I have my political opinion, and they lean more conservative than liberal. But never once in my life have I pulled a political parties ticket switch, I don't believe in that.  I believe you had better know who you are voting for, what they really stand for, and who is behind them.

Unfortunately I think we, that includes myself, have allowed our elected officials to believe they are in control. That they own the school board, city, and county.  They can do anything they want and there will be no repercussions to their actions.

I can't wait to put up on the board, "Great job city council!" or "Mayor, way to go! Thanks for the 100 new jobs", "School board, A+ for the great ratings" but for that to happen we'll need some forward thinking, and less corruption in our government.

Until then, we'll keep the topics that need to be discussed in front of the citizens of Gonzales and as the primary source of 'water cooler' conversation fodder.  Though I've found out, I'm only saying what so many in this town wanted to say but were afraid of ruffling the feathers.  I've given them the opening to that conversation, "Hey did you see what's on the billboard? Yeah, the _____ is doing _____"

Keep up the all the talk Gonzales, believe it or not we ARE making a difference!

God Bless

  1. I was upset when I saw this cartoon in the paper. Why would the Inquirer, "a fair community paper", mock a citizen's freedom of speech?? What they did is unacceptable!

  2. I appreciate the support. I look at it as an act of desperation. The upside is there is an old saying saying any publicity is better than none. Without me having to pay a dime to the paper they drew attention to my chalkboard. More people driving by, more people honking as they see me changing the board (please, not something my wife likes, so let's keep the honking down), and more people reading www.90asign.com.

What they don't realize is in the end it's going to get the voters to the poles, and I really think the more people we get to vote this time, the better off Gonzales will be.

    God Bless,
    Dennis

  3. At least your politics are out in the open, not in the back room at city hall.
What's going on at GEDC this week?
